Wanting More: The Two of Wands, Four of Cups, and Seven of Pentacles Reversed

Bored. Stuck. Uninspired. Rudderless. Underwhelmed. Underenthused. Despite our best efforts, sometimes we find ourselves in a rut. Maybe we’re too focused on the things we can’t have? Or, Goddess forbid, we’ve tried just about everything and still feel like we’re swimming upstream. Throw in the towel! It’s time for a break.

The Two of Wands, Four of Cups, and Seven of Pentacles Reversed all share themes of inertia, thwarted plans, and invisible obstacles. Sometimes we’re our own worst enemy, and these cards can signal a much-needed shift in mindset. These are the cards of ennui, unsatiated longing, and wondering what it all means.

The Two of Wands (Upright)

“Having it all” is wildly subjective and, hard as we try, all of us have suffered from “grass is greener” syndrome. So many things may be going right — we might have the dream job or the dream family, we might be in a fantastic relationship, or on track to cross yet another goal off of our lists — yet, we’re deeply unsatisfied.

In the Tarot, the twos are about balance, weighing options, seeing both sides, holding the tension of the opposites, and recognizing that all light things have their shadows. With wand energy, we need to be doubly careful that we don’t get burned. As elemental fire, these are the cards of desire, passion, ideas, inspiration, and wanting…
